If you haven’t had a browse through the Alumni Dublinenses directory now on finmypast.ie we would definitely suggest taking a look. The directory contains the complete list of over 32,000 graduates of Trinity College Dublin from its founding in 1592 to 1846. With many of the great and good of Irish History having attended Ireland’s most prestigious University it’s definitely worth searching even if you’re ancestors weren’t lucky enough to attend.
Some of the entries we found were:
Johnathan Swift, arguably Ireland’s greatest essayist as well satirist, political pamphleteer, poet and cleric who is probably most famous for his novel “Gulliver’s Travels” He later became Dean of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
We also found Theobald Wolfe Tone, recognised as one of the fathers of Irish republicanism and one of the protagonists of the 1798 Rebellion, when he was studying law at Trinity.
Have a browse through the records and let us know who you find.
