Grattan was a law graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, who went on to become a member of the Irish House of Commons. He was a determined campaigner for constitutional and political rights for the people of Ireland. He was vehemently opposed to the Act of Union 1800 which merged the kingdoms of Ireland and Great Britain. He has particular relevance for us here in the Findmypast Ireland office as we have to walk down Grattan Street each morning on our way to Findmypast towers.
