Thousands of new articles from historic Connaught newspapers have just been added to our collection of Irish Newspapers. The province of Connaught is home to the greatest number of native Irish speakers at between 5–10% of the population and includes several important Irish-speaking areas in Counties Galway and Mayo. The Galway Vindicator and Connaught Advertiser is a brand new title that can be found amongst these new additions. Better known in its day as "The Vindicator", the newspaper was published between 1841 and 1899, and is regarded as an important source for those researching the Great Hunger and social conditions in Galway in the second half of the 19th century.
